Who is Jesus?

Jesus offers good news of salvation, healing and hope. His invitation is for all people, all nations, all languages, whoever calls on His name. His name itself, Jesus, means ‘God saves.’

He came to bridge the divide between heaven and earth and to make a way for humanity to be restored to God. He gave his life in payment so that anyone can receive forgiveness and redemption.

His character and mission are to do good and to represent His father. He says:

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me. He has chosen me to be His representative to the poor and to preach good news to them. He sent me to tell those who are held captive that they can now be set free and to tell the blind that they can now see. He sent me to liberate those held down by oppression. To proclaim that now is the time; it is the year of the Lord’s favour.”  Luke 4:18-19

The life of Jesus

Jesus lived over 2,000 years ago, yet His life still shapes the world today. He was born in Bethlehem to Mary, in humble circumstances that fulfilled God’s promises of a coming Saviour. He grew up in Nazareth. At around 30, He stepped into public ministry. He taught about the Kingdom of God. He healed the sick. He performed miracles that revealed God’s power and love. “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.” Colossians 2:9

The message of Jesus

Jesus’ message was clear. God loves you. God is not distant. God cares about you personally. Jesus spoke about a kingdom marked by love, justice, and peace. That kingdom starts in the human heart. It grows as people choose to follow Him. Jesus called people to repent. That means to turn from sin and turn toward God. It means trust. It means receive grace and forgiveness. “For this is how God loved the world. He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Jesus' death and resurrection

After about three years of ministry, Jesus was crucified. It was a brutal execution. He was innocent. His death was not an accident. It fulfilled God’s plan to bring humanity back to Himself. Scripture teaches that Jesus took the penalty for our sin. Through Him, you receive forgiveness and a restored relationship with God. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 Three days later, Jesus rose from the dead. The resurrection sits at the centre of the Christian faith. It confirms who Jesus is. He is the Son of God. He holds power over sin and death. Because He lives, you have hope of eternal life. “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

Following Jesus

When you ask Jesus to forgive your sins and trust Him as your Saviour, you begin a life of following Him. You learn His teaching. You share His message of love and forgiveness. You come to know God by reading the Bible. You grow closer to Him through prayer and worship. You gather with other believers in the church. You serve one another and the world around you. “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10

Where do I start?

You start by believing and by speaking your faith. The Bible says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 When you pray, you are doing both. You believe in your heart. You confess with your mouth. That step begins a new life of following Jesus. Lord God, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who died for my sins and rose to life again. I am sorry for my sins; and ask for your forgiveness. I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Saviour. I ask you to transform my life and give me your Holy Spirit to lead me all of my days. Thank you for your unlimited goodness and grace over my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
